Thoughts to start the New Year

Happy New Year!

2009 was a special year in Family History.  By the end of the year we were all using version 0.99 of nFS (we started the roll out with version 0.9) and Salt Lake Temple district had become the final district (other than 5 in Asia) to use nFS.  Of course our best memories of 2009 were meeting the many wonderful people like you who are helping teach Family History!  We are grateful for the invitations to visit that we received last year – and hope we will be invited again this year!

What will 2010 bring???  I think the addition of the Utah and Idaho temple districts really was only the end of the beginning and there will be many exciting things happening in 2010 – but I’m not going to speculate!

Some thoughts to start the year.  These 2 thoughts were shared with us late in 2009:

1.  Three people can keep a secret if two of them are dead!

2.  If you have reached the stage of life where you would like to take a “short” rest in the afternoon but are a little embarrassed to admit that you need a nap, then tell everyone that you are “studying Lehi’s dream.”

I hope you realize this is just a humble attempt at New Year humour!

May we suggest that a  good thought to start the year can be found in the January 2010 Ensign in the article by Elder Holland (Jeffrey R. Holland, “The Best Is Yet to Be,” Ensign, Jan 2010, 22–27, from a BYU Devotional 13 Jan 2009):

“The past is to be learned from but not lived in. We look back to claim the embers from glowing experiences but not the ashes. And when we have learned what we need to learn and have brought with us the best that we have experienced, then we look ahead and remember that faith is always pointed toward the future. Faith always has to do with blessings and truths and events that will yet be efficacious in our lives”

so . . .

The Best is Yet to Be – Look ahead and remember that faith is always pointed toward the future.  Faith builds on the past but never longs to stay there.  Faith trusts that God has great things in store for each of us
