I admit that I am a neophyte “blogger” – is there really such a word? I have been doing this for nearly 2 months now and am beginning to wonder who reads this and hence whether I should continue writing!
Since I started this blog on 30 October 2009 there have been 258 views/visits. The busiest day was when 44 people viewed on Nov 1. Some days there is only one person viewing – then I realize that it is me!
Perhaps people don’t know how to access and use the blog? Perhaps they think “bad things” will happen if they read a blog? Perhaps they just forget to check back?
To get to the blog you just need to type the url like any web site. You can save to Favourites or Bookmarks if you wish. We also offer a subscription feature!
Let me review why this blog was created, suggest an easy way to see new articles (called “posts” in blogger talk), and share a feature I hope to add soon.
Your comments are welcome. When you type something as a comment it just doesn’t appear on the blog, first it comes to me for review – I promise not to edit out any polite comments! Then the comments are posted.
I would also welcome suggestions for articles, even just a question. You can email these to me at peterfh@gmail.com
I also welcome your articles. There is no reason I need to be the only writer here. Maybe email me your suggested topics first.
Why have this blog? Well, this is to supplement the quarterly newsletters which are difficult to send out because of the risk of being labelled a “spammer.” There are often things I want to share with you and they don’t arrive every 3 months in time for the next newsletter. This is an easy way for me to distribute information.
“. . . . but does this mean I have to check this web site regularly – you said you were going to post something new every week?”
I have added an optional feature allowing you to subscribe to this blog. Once you subscribe any new postings are automatically emailed to you. Of course if you don’t want to subscribe then you can check back whenever you want . . .
I am also investigating adding a feature to allow you to download files such as the FH Cons training checklist which keeps needing updating.
I hope this helps explain the blog. Let me know if you want me to continue, or stop – or maybe you want me to only post something once every 2 weeks or once a month?
Will silence be taken as a sign of consent?
Please continue the blog. I look forward to the new postings. I think as you say that people are maybe not familiar enough with blogs. I print a Stake FH Consultant newsletter and so will mention it in my February issue and try to stir up some interest.
Peter, please continue the blog. I think they are an excellent way to stay in touch.
I have a blog that I have kept up for about 3 years, it is centered on my own family and my family research. http://billbuchanan.blogger.com
I have appreciated your newsletters. They are most helpful. The blog is exciting as we can receive new information so much quicker. Please keep on blogging!!
Sorry to disagree. I like the emails. The first thing I did was sign up for email notification.
My list of (very) interesting bloggers is getting to long to spend time each day just to see if anything new has been added to their blog.
Please keep the emails coming or I will get your blog updates automatically via email.
Peter, I’m greatful for your efforts, newletter and now blog. I’ve signed up for the blog to be pushed out to me “automatically” by email because I’m a slacker, I’m too busy (don’t I wish some of that too busy was too busy doing genealogy research, and I’m forgetful about which blogs and sites I like to keep updated on. I’ve already found and printed some great stuff from your blog, so keep blogging.
