Thank you for your comment Jayne - I agree - "how you keep your own records is very much a personal choice and it doesn’t really matter if it is Mac, Windows or even paper, just as long as the records are there and you know how to access them" - and yes Reunion is a good program - let's hope there is soon something that let's Reunion interact with nFS

I am a new family history consultant (and new to Family History) and a Mac user. I was told by others that I would need to either switch to windows or put windows on my Mac. At the time of my call I was using Reunion - a Mac based software program. I found Reunion a great program but unfortunately it doesn't interface with nFS. I emailed the developers and received an email back stating that it was something they are working on but did not have a date of when it would be done.

After my call I did put Parallels on my mac and I have explored other windows based programs. In doing some research I have decided to go back to Reunion and wait for the update to interface with nFS.

Reunion has put a lot of their efforts into making apps for the iPhone and the iPad. Because I am a Mac user I tend to love all the gadgets and apps for the iPhone and iPad will be of great benefit for me.

With my research of windows based programs and doing a lot of reading and asking questions about different programs, I have decided that how you keep your own records is very much a personal choice and it doesn't really matter if it is Mac, Windows or even paper, just as long as the records are there and you know how to access them. Luckily I am computer savvy enough that if someone I am helping needs help with a specific program I will be able to find the answer.

So if you are looking for a Mac based program, don't rule out Reunion yet. It is a good program with a nice Mac interface. It is a good option. With the popularity of Macs growing I think we will have more options in the future.

Thank you for your comment.

For more information on family insight go to http://www.ohanasoftware.com/

They have tutorials and videos

I had a great time a month ago in the FHL in SLC with my ipad. My windows 7 laptop wouldn't connect through the wifi but the iPad did. I was able to use the Fhl account for Ancestry, use the library catalog , and even nFS except for the tree view and temple tab that use Flash.

Who knows what we will be able to do for FH on the iPad in time!

This is being written on my iPad.

As a Mac user this is wonderful and much anticipated news. In my opinion the release of the i pad has incredible implications for family history work. Can you explain more about FamilyInsight?
Thank you for your blog. I don't know how you keep it up and still find time to do Family History work!
