Dear Elder Darby:

Years ago we got our films/fiche from Salt lake through Coutts, now since the greater tax in Ontario/Quebec/ and British Columbia. Why is our mail having to be sent out east where there might be a faster route coming through Coutts, to Lethbridge or Calgary?
When mail is sent to Montana do they go through Ohio, or New York? or mail sent to Oregon do they go through Florida first, it seems funny that we don't get mail from Salt Lake the more direct route, probably costing us more the way it comes now.
Since they are trying to adjust the prices, and organize this new system can this have a factor for the 7-8 Provinces that don't have a greater tax hike.

Sincerely
Gwen Meyer

When I checked on this I was told that implementation had been delayed while finance work out the implications of the HST which just came in for BC and Ontario - so I guess we have some extra time!

Two things came to mind after I read the email about this last week. I discussed them with FHC Support, and while they agreed they were issues, they did not suggest answers.

1. It would be helpful if patrons wanting films could use the internet to check the inventories of the FHC's in their area. If this was possible, they might be able to find the film want already at a centre near them and not need to order it.

2. FHC Support said that the way it is set up now, a patron can order a film, specify the FHC, and send the money without knowing if the designated FHC already has the film. Patrons must specify the FHC that they want the film sent to but there is no requirement that they check to see if the centre has the film before they order. On the Salt Lake end, after the order is send, there is a mechanism to avoid the sending of a duplicate of a film that is already at the designated FHC. When that triggers, the money is refunded and the FHC and/or the patron is notified that the film is already there. That seems a little backwards but maybe with time they can improve it.
