Happy New Year to everyone! We hope you had a joyous Christmas and that the New Year is off to a good start.
A New Year is always an exciting thing. A good time to review goals or set new goals.
Back in the 29 Aug 2010 Newsletter and the 5 Sept article “The Future of Family Search” we urged you to familiarize yourself with beta.familysearch.org before it replaced the old familysearch web site.
The change has taken place! Beta is now FamilySearch.org and the old FamilySearch.org is now the classic view or as it says on the website “the previous version of FamilySearch.
It is important that each of us become familiar with the new website so that we can teach others how to use it.
Change can be challenging!
Here are some tips to help you with the new version of FamilySearch.org:
- Download and become familiar with the 24 page document “Adjusting to the New Version of www.familysearch.org (8 December 2010” You can find this document on the FamilySearch.org web site by clicking on Changes at FamilySearch or What’s New? (right side of the screen) and then going to the bottom of the article “FamilySearch.org Website Changes – update” – you might want to read the article – to What’s New View/Print Guide (pdf) which is the link to the article “Adjusting to . . . “. There is also a link to an interactive guide.
- Take the tutorials on using the new web site. Click on Help (small print) in the upper right hand corner and scroll down to the heading “Tutorials.” You can see 6 tutorials. Clicking on the link “See the whole list (8)” adds 2 more tutorials. Don’t get too excited about the FamilySearch store tutorial. Last time I checked they don’t deliver to Canada! The 8th tutorial might be interesting.
- Remember that clicking on the tree logo in the top left hand corner of the screen takes you back to the home page.
- Do I need to sign in each time I use FamilySearch.org? No – unless you want to use Feedback or if you want to see some of the images.
- What username and password does FamilySearch.org use? Members of the public can register for a FamilySearch account. Members of the church use their LDSAccount (i.e. the same username and password you use on new.FamilySearch.org or Indexing or the Stake web site)
